Lavender Guard Bands

Welcome to the Lavender Guard’s blog! We are looking forward to posting many exciting updates here, and our first is about our initial process of forming this group!

We are in the process of determining the level of interest there is in a queer performance ensemble. If there is enough interest and potential volunteers, we will form a marching band that stands and plays in local events and perhaps even marches in parades one day. A long term goal would be to have a separate ensemble that performs a field show (similar to a halftime show or drum corps performance).

Why are we doing this? Because in a world where LGBTQIA+ folks are shamed, isolated, and silenced, we believe the solution is community and being loud! And that’s a marching band’s forte! (Sorry for the bad pun.) By increasing opportunities for community building and representation, we hope to foster a space for creative expression, learning, and connection.
